Travelling from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Lowell

The Congress will take place at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Inn and Congress Center, 50 Warrant Street, Lowell, Massachusetts, 01852. The overflow hotel is the Marriott Courtyard Boston Lowell/Chelmsford, 30 Industrial Avenue East, Lowell, Massachusetts, 01852. Lowell is approximately 30 miles northwest of Boston, and neither the Inn and Conference Center nor the Marriott Courtyard offers shuttle service.

There are several ways of travelling from Logan International Airport to Lowell.

Taxi

A taxi cab from Logan International Airport to Lowell can cost $100 USD or more. This is the easiest way to get there, but also the most expensive.

Flight Line

Flight Line is a van service offering one-way or round-trip shuttle service from Logan International Airport to many cities in Massachusetts, including Lowell. As of this writing, the cost of a one-way shared van ride from Logan to Lowell is around $60 USD. Please consult their website for more information.

Public Transportation (Bus and Trains) to Lowell Train Station

From the airport terminal, take the free MASSPORT shuttle bus to Airport Station (buses may be labeled “Airport Subway Station”).

At Airport Station, purchase a one-way fare ($2 USD). Take the Blue Line—Bowdoin (inbound subway train) three stops to State Street Station (this train takes about 5 minutes).

At State Street Station, take the Orange Line—Oak Grove (outbound subway train) two stops to North Station (this train takes about 2 minutes).
At North Station, follow the signs to the Commuter Rail Station.

At the Commuter Rail Station, take the Lowell Line to Lowell (this train takes about 45 minutes). Tickets to Lowell ($9-12 USD) may be less expensive if purchased at the ticket window than if they are purchased on the train itself.

This is the least expensive option, costing around $13-15 USD. But it is also the most complicated and time-consuming (it may take up to 2 hours, depending on how long you have to wait for each train).

Taxi and Train to Lowell Train Station

From the airport terminal, take a taxi to North Station (about $20-25 USD).

At North Station, follow the signs to the Commuter Rail Station.

At the Commuter Rail Station, take the Lowell Line to Lowell (this train takes about 45 minutes). Tickets to Lowell ($9-12 USD) may be less expensive if purchased at the ticket window than if they are purchased on the train itself.

Once you have arrived at the Lowell Train Station

Taxi to the UML Inn & Conference Center and the Marriott Courtyard

Several taxi companies serve the Lowell area. Fare from the Lowell Train Station to the Conference Center is around $6-8 USD. Fare from the Lowell Train Station to the Marriott Courtyard will be a bit more.

Walking to the UML Inn & Conference Center

The UML Inn and Congress Center is about a 15 minute walk from the Lowell train station:

  1. From the Lowell train station, walk northwest on Massachusetts 3A S toward Appleton Street.
  2. Turn right onto Appleton Street. Walk for about .4 miles (you will pass Favor Street on your right; pass Pearl Street on your left; cross South Street; pass Elliott Street on your left; and cross Gorham Street and then Central Street). At this point Appleton Street changes names to become Church Street.
  3. Continue one more block on Church Street and then turn left onto George Street. You will cross Green Street and Williams Street before George Street intersects with Warren Street.
  4. Bear left on Warren Street. Pass Hurd Street on your left, and then arrive at the Inn and Conference Center (50 Warren Street).

Shuttle Bus to the Marriott Courtyard

The Marriott Courtyard Boston Lowell/Chelmsford, located approximately 2.2 miles from the Lowell train station, provides free shuttle service for its guests to and from the station. Service is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. To request a pick-up from the train station, call the hotel at 978-458-7575.
